Many of you may have had these before, but for those who haven't, YOU ARE MISSING OUT!! A few years ago at Bunco, my friend Melissa brought these and I was instantly in LOVE! They are insanely easy to make and will literally fly off the plate. If you need to take a dessert or a snack somewhere, take these...they are always a big hit!
~~~
Oreo Balls
1 package Oreo Cookies
1 block cream cheese, softened
1 package Chocolate Almond Bark or Bakers Chocolate Baking Squares
***I halved the recipe this time around, so that is why everything looks smaller. :)
Place Oreo Cookies in a baggie and smash until it is the consistency of dirt.
Just found your blog from pinterest. I love it! My family is going to be very happy next month to have some new ideas.
ReplyDeleteYay Jenna! I hope you find some you like!! :)
ReplyDeleteSo, I was stumped on what to make for dinner so I asked for help from my friends on facebook. One of my friends posted a recipe on your blog. Ok so I am in LOVE this your blog. I can't wait to start cooking. Thanks and keep the recipes a commin.
ReplyDeleteSo glad you found me!! I will definitely keep the recipes coming! :)
ReplyDeleteMy husband makes these for work every now and then and they are always a huge hit! He especially likes to make them with the mint Oreos to add a little pizzaz. :)
ReplyDeleteI make these all the time! At the holidays I use the peppermint Oreos and the peanut butter Oreos are to die for! Just a helpful tip...I put my Oreos in the food processor to get them that fine and it cuts alot of time off, then I add the cream cheese to that still in processor. I also freeze my dough balls before dumping them in the hot chocolate. They tend to not be as gooey if they are frozen!
ReplyDeleteI love anything with mint and chocolate, so I am going to have to make these with the peppermint Oreos SOON!! Thanks for the tips ladies!
ReplyDeleteWait, is the Bakers Chocolate reg. chocolate, or unsweet?? I went to buy some today but all my store had was Unsweet???
ReplyDeleteRegular Bakers Chocolate or Chocolate Almond Bark...not unsweet. Hope this helps! :)
ReplyDeleteMade these and they tasted SO good! The only thing I will do differently next time is I will put the balls in the refrigerator before I dip them in chocolate to harden them a bit. They were quite messy and sticky when I tried to dip them straight after making them. Thanks for a yummy, easy recipe!
ReplyDeleteLove this. . .Going to get the ingredients tonight!!!
ReplyDeleteThis relly looks delicious, so I tried to make those. But, I wasn't able to make balls out of that texture. It was so sticky; it got attached to my hands so i could roll them. How did you do that? Thanks! :)
ReplyDeleteNicky...I'm not sure what happened when you tried to make them. The only thing I can think is that maybe they needed to be blended a little bit more?? Someone above said that they blend theirs in a food processor...that might help. I will say that they do involve a lot of stirring before it is blended enough for me to form into balls. I hope this helps!!! :)
ReplyDeleteI was thinking of dipping them in white chocolate at the end...what do you think?
ReplyDeleteYes, I think white chocolate would be great!! :)
ReplyDeleteFor special occasions I add 3+ tablespoons of rum. Adults only dessert, of course.
ReplyDeleteI make mine dipped in white chocolate, it is out of this world!!!
ReplyDeleteI will definitely have to try that!
DeleteI do not see how many this makes. I want to try them for the cookie exchange at work so I need to know how many batches I will have to make. We usually need about 6 dozen cookies. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteHmm...it really depends on how big you make them. I would say you can get about *40ish* good size ones in one batch. I think two batches would probably be good...the best part is that you can make them as big or small as you want them, so if you needed to make them smaller to get 72 you could. Hope this helps! You will be a hit at your cookie exchange! :)
DeleteJust spotted these on pinterest. They look delicious - can't wait to try them!
ReplyDeleteMy mom makes these during christmas time with the same filling but with white chocolate and crushed up candy canes mixed in the white chocolate. they look so pretty and festive and taste wonderful!
ReplyDeleteLove the idea of the white chocolate (so many have mentioned this!) with the candy canes...I will definitely be trying this. Thanks!!
DeleteIs there anything else that you can you instead of cream cheese?
ReplyDeleteI don't think so. I looked up substitutions for cream cheese and the items listed (Greek yogurt,hummus, tofu, cottage cheese)don't have the same consistency as cream cheese. The cream cheese is what makes it all stick together. If you find something, let me know! :)
DeleteOK thank you. I will do research on my end too.
DeleteWhat about marshmellow creme? it is a nice consistency but would have to be refrigerated before dipping in warm chocolate. If you arent crazy about that flavor mix 1/2 marshmellow creme and 1/2 cream cheese. Another topping I like is: 8 oz cool whip, cream cheese and confectioners sugar or cool whip, sour cream and 1 cup regular sugar (these are great toppings for congealed salads also) add more sugar if you want them more of cream cheese consistency but keep refrigerated ... if they last that long or a melted caramel with confectioners or regular sugar added (just enough for desired consistency ....... let me know if you try and any of these work or just what you think .... just off the cuff ideas.
DeleteI'm using Gluten free oreos...how many cookies aprox are in a regular bag of oreos? There aren't as many in the gluten free package, not sure if I used half the recipe or not. Any suggestions?
ReplyDeleteI don't have any Oreos in the pantry right now, but I looked it up and the most common answer is 45. (3 rows of 15 in a regular 18 oz package.) Hope this helps!!
DeleteI was at the store today and looked at a package of Oreos...there are about 39 cookies per package. :)
DeleteDoes Semi-sweet bakers chocolate squares work?
ReplyDeleteI've never used these, but I can't imagine why not. Let me know if you try them! :)
DeleteI've made these plenty of times and they are always a hit! A few things I learned is to "crush" the Oreo's up in a food processor. I found that this helps a bit with the stickiness. Also, I'll throw the Oreo balls in the freezer for an hour or so before I dip them in the chocolate. It helps prevent them from falling apart when you're trying to get them covered in the chocolate.
ReplyDeleteI was at the store today and looked...there are about 39 cookies in a package of Oreos here and the cream cheese I use comes in an 8 oz block. Hope this helps!! :)
ReplyDeleteDo you need to refrigerate them?
ReplyDeleteYes, if they aren't all eaten, I would put them in the refrigerator because of the cream cheese. :)
DeleteMaybe a crazy question but what do you do with the cream from the oreos? Do you throw them away?
ReplyDeleteYou leave the cream in the cookies and smash away! It goes into the yummy mixture! :)
DeleteI also have a question relating to the cream from the oreos. I had a lot of cookie still stuck to the inside of the plastic bag I used to crush them in. How do you get that out? It is stuck on because of the cream in the cookies.
ReplyDeleteHmm...maybe smash them up some more. I normally have some stuck in there, but not a lot. You definitely want the cream in there because it adds to the flavor! :) Some people have left me comments that they like to smash them up in a food processor...that might help. Let me know how it works for you! :)
DeleteJust made these, found them on Pinterest. I read all the reviews and put them in the freezer. I bought 3 bags, one regular, one reduced fat and a mint. The mint definitely had more cream filling and wer stickiest of bunch. So suggest to sticking with regular, definitely avoid double stuffed. They are good, very sweet and I did need more melted chocolate to cover mine fully! Will be glad when they leave house since too tempting!
ReplyDeleteCouple of questions.
ReplyDelete1. What size oreo cookie package?
2. What size block of cream cheese?
And... you can also use a food processor or chopper (the mini food processor) to mash up the cookies. Just break them into parts first.
I use the standard size package of cookies...it has about 39 cookies in it and I use an 8 ounce block of cream cheese. You can definitely use a food processor or chopper to mash them up! :)
DeleteThanks for sharing! This is definitely one of my favorite recipes on here! :)
ReplyDeleteHow do I provide a back link?? Not sure what that means! :)
ReplyDeleteMy sister uses Nutter Butters and they are to die for!
ReplyDeleteI bet Girl Scout Thin Mints would be delicious done this way!
ReplyDeleteHi, what is the amount of chocolate that is needed - I would hate to run out of chocolate halfway through.....
ReplyDeleteAmanda, if I make an entire batch, which is one package of Oreos and one block of cream cheese, I usually use an entire package of Almond Bark. If I half the recipe, I half the Almond Bark. Hope this helps! :)
DeleteHi,How many grams? I am in New Zealand and have never heard of almond bark so just wondering what the weight is. Thanks
DeleteHmm, I have no idea how many grams. I'm so sorry!! Do you have Bakers Chocolate by chance? I've used that before and it works just as well. Another option might be to melt chocolate chips.
DeleteHow long does it take to set up in the fridge?
ReplyDeleteI would give it a few hours. I normally make these the night before serving them, so I'm not exactly sure, but I would think they would be good to go in a few hours. Hope this helps! :)
DeleteThese look awesome! Am I understanding it that you leave the filling in the Oreos and then crush them? Also, would this work with whipped cream cheese?
ReplyDeleteYes, leave the filling in the Oreos! Not sure about whipped cream cheese. I don't think it will be thick enough to get the right consistency. If you ever do try it though, let me know how it turns out! :)
DeleteThis is a variation on the cake balls, so I don't see why the canned icing wouldn't work instead of cream cheese, and if you just add the cream cheese or icing a little at at time you could adjust the consistency as needed. Also, they should only need about an hour in the fridge or freezer before dipping in the chocolate
ReplyDeleteGood to know...thanks! :)
Deletegreat Blog
ReplyDeleteI just made these! I don't have a food processor and panicked when I couldn't get the cream cheese to mix with the oreos… then I tried the good ole' fashioned method of using my hands to mush it all together! Worked like a dream. I'm shaping mine like footballs and piping white lines on the chocolate for our Superbowl party! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteHow much is a block of cream cheese?
ReplyDeleteCan i dip these in melted chocolate chips
ReplyDeleteHow long is safe to keep these if refrigerated ??
ReplyDeleteDo you keep the cream in the cookies when you smash them?
ReplyDelete
